It’s that time of year again…the art shows have come to San Francisco. If your walls are bare or even if you’re a seasoned collector, it’s fun to view breakthrough artists and grab a piece…or five!
Clients naively believe that my job as an interior designer is complete when all of the carpet, furniture, drapes, wallpaper, and lighting is installed. The final and most important part to any successfully designed space is the accessories and artwork. They present the room in a perfect package by tying the ceiling and floor together and all of the objects in between. They add an extra punch of color, design interest, and whimsy. Some of the pieces may be the most personal part of the room, as they can evoke special memories or inspirations. Whether you’re in the beginning, middle or end of your interior design process, don’t forget the accessories and artwork.

One of my favorite galleries at this show is SB Fine Arts. I have worked with Stephanie on many custom pieces for clients and in my home. She represents an amazing collection of contemporary artists and creates artwork mockups so it’s easy to view the artwork in any space in your home. She is also currently representing artists at the San Francisco Decorator Showcase which is now open.
Have fun at the shows, even if you’re just browsing. Let me know if you need any assistance in selecting the perfect pieces to complete your home.
We are proud to announce House of Ruby Interior Design’s participation in the 2013 Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House located in Woodside CA. It is one of the last great estates on the Peninsula: an 11,000 square foot house with 20 beautifully decorated designer rooms, situated on a 21-acre estate with breathtaking vistas. This is the first designer home event on the Peninsula in a decade; you won’t want to miss this one!

House of Ruby Interior Design creates A Traveler’s Retreat
2013 Peninsula Volunteers Decorator Show House
A Traveler’s Retreat
With a nod to both classicism and comfort, this second-floor bedroom serves as a serene sanctuary for the home’s invited guests. Shades of green, lavender, and cream accents provide a tranquil backdrop for the room’s dramatic canopy bed. This offers the best seat in the house, providing an impressive view of the three-story birch tree and Woodside hills beyond. The natural beauty of the landscape is highlighted by the embroidered linen window treatments and custom hand painted pelmet boxes.
Adored with vines and vibrant bouquets of hand-beaded flowers, the charming chandelier imbues the space with a sense of playfulness. The movement and textures in the fabric and furniture echoes the inherent beauty of the scenery beyond the bedroom walls. House of Ruby Interior Design’s tranquil escape welcomes world class travelers and serves as a home away from home.

The holidays are fast approaching and it’s time to thank all of our wonderful family, friends and business associates that have kept us in good spirits throughout the year. At House of Ruby Interior Design, we like giving and receiving gifts that have a personal touch. We go gaga over anything monogrammed as we know it was meant just for us. The extra time and effort that goes into ordering a custom gift is always appreciated. Here are some of our favorites that we know those on your nice list will love.
Monogram Jewelry Box from CWonder. Choose a box color of black, white, orange or green, and then choose a gold plated letter.
Monogrammed Soap from The Monogram Merchant. Choose from a variety of fragrances, sizes, colors, monogram or single initial, and towel sets.
Personalized notepads showcasing your favorite photos from PicPads.

Monogrammed canvas tote bag from Lands’ End. Sturdy and with lots of pockets, this is a designer must have. We love the long handle version for hands free maneuverability. Choose from 6 colors, monogram or single initial, and 8 font styles.

One of a kind acrylic photo trays from Erin Condren. Choose from 2 tray sizes, and then upload your photo, text, and any special instructions.
Customized stationary from Iomoi. Choose from over 200 unique designs to create stationary with a statement.
Your holiday party will step up a notch with these personalized party cups from Social Primer. Choose from 10 monogram styles, 8 ink colors, and 4 cup sizes. They are shatterproof, dishwasher safe, and Eco-friendly.
Wallpaper is one of my favorite design details to add to a room. It gives an extra punch of color and pattern.
In an entry, wallpaper sets the stage for the design of the home and begins the creative journey. Designer: Elizabeth Reich for Jenkins Baer Associates. Wallpaper: Phillip Jeffries.
I always like to suggest more eccentric patterns in powder bathrooms as to surprise and intrigue guests. Wallteriors has an excellent selection of contemporary textured wallpaper with endless installation options. Designer: House of Ruby Interior Design. Wallpaper: Wallteriors.
Wallpaper can also be used in unassuming areas like on furniture. This is a custom console that was wallpapered and then lacquered over. Designer: House of Ruby Interior Design. Wallpaper: Nina Campbell.
It can even dress up mundane spaces, like laundry rooms, closets, and the back of bookshelves. Designer: Jamie Meares. Wallpaper: Cole & Son.
Some of my preferred wallpaper vendors include: 1. Designer’s Guild, 2. Osborne & Little, 3. Mulberry Home, 4. Maya Romanoff, 5. Cole & Son, 6. Phillip Jeffries, 7. Hygge & West, 8. Nina Campbell.
